Oct. 28, 2009 Fifth ORPHEUS 2010 Vienna conference - First meeting of Local organizing Committee
The first session of Local Organizing Committee of the Fifth ORPHEUS 2010 Vienna conference was held at Vienna Mecial University Oct 28, 2009. Meeting chaired by Professor Hannes Stockingerwas attended by ORPHEUS president Professor Zdravko Lackovic and ORPHEUS acting treasurer Professor Guenther Gell. After the the meeting of Local Organizing Committee there was a short meeting with Rector of the Vienna Medical University Professor Wolfgang Schutz and Vice Rector Professor Rudolf Malinger.
Members of the Local Organizing committee are:
Professors Hannes Stockinger (Conference Chairmann), Andrea Olschewski (Medical University Graz), Bernard Knapp, Wilfred Ellmeier, Stephan Boehm, Johannes Hainfellneran and
Board members of the Young Scientist Association of the MUV(to be nominated).
Major agenda were workshops on the networking and keynote and invited lectures. It was agreed that each workshop has one chairman from Local organizing Committe and another from ORPHEUS Executive Committee.
Sept 27-29, 2009 - ORPHEUS EC MEETING IN KRAKOW
Septemeber 27-29, ORPHEUS Executive Comittee held a meeting in Krakow. Meeting was organized by EC member Professor Jadwiga Mirecka. Meeting was hosted by Rector and Vice rectors of the Medical College Jagiellonian University (Polish: Uniwersytet Jagielloński)

Sept 9-11,2009 - Baltic Conference in RIGA"- Setting Standards for PhD Education in Medicine"
September 19-18. International scientific conference of Baltic countries entitled "Setting Standards for PhD Education in Medicine" was held in Riga , September 16-19, 2009. The conference was organized by Riga Stradins University with the participation of about 50 persons responsibilie for PhD programmes in medicine from the Baltic Universities. The Chairmens of the conference were Professor Aigars Petersons and Professor Janis Gardovskis, Rector of the University. Invited speakers were: Professor Zdravko Lackovic, ORPHEUS President, Professor David Gordon, AMSE President, ProfessorSeppo Meri, ORPHEUS General Secretary and Professor Anders Gustavssons.

On January 23rd 2009 at the University of Wuerzburg, Department
of Psychiatry, a DAAD workshop was
held on the theme „European
PhD-Programme in Biomedicine – How to Improve International Cooperation“. This
DAAD workshop follows from the years of collaboration between scientists from
Wuerzburg, Zagreb, Sarajevo and other SEE
cities, lead by Prof. Riederer from Wuerzburg. The collaboration enabled a
number of young researchers in the phase of writing their doctorate theses to
stay a certain period in Wuerzburg, and the project also supported some
participants at the first two ORPHEUS conferences in Zagreb.
